Naia Izumi

After entering a submission to NPR’s Tiny Desk national contest and walking away as the grand prize winner, things only started to looked up for guitarist Naia Izumi. Combining genuine guitar chops and blending two-hand tapping with R&B soul, Izumi’s sounds pull inspiration from busking in the streets of Los Angeles, playing on porches with blues players and punk kids in the trailer park community he grew up in. Izumi is proving to be a name to look out for in the music community with his smooth vocal delivery. Check out his music video for his single “Our Gravity” above.

Naia Izumi uses Ernie Ball Power Slinky and Ernie Ball Flatwound group III bass strings.

Starcrawler

Los Angeles based Starcrawler brings dark and heavy riffage with a frantic sensibility that keeps listeners on edge. Lead singer Arrow de Wilde met guitarist Henri Cash in high school and quickly formed a band. The first song they released was titled “Ants,” a straight 70s rock’n’roll sounding track about an ant infestation at Cash’s home. The single caught the attention of artists Gerald Way of My Chemical Romance and the legendary Sir Elton John, which ultimately helped the band ink a deal with Rough Trade Records. Their live shows have built quite the reputation as a high energy revelation, so be sure sure to catch Starcrawler on tour in a city near you. Watch the official music video for “I Love LA” above.

SadGirl

Nostalgic romantics SadGirl have created an authentic capsule of breezy, vintage pop songs that come across not only effortlessly, but also seemingly time tested. The band’s latest record titled Water, released by Suicide Squeeze, has tracks that range from infectious melodies worthy of slow dances at a sock hop to tormented love songs. Lead singer/guitarist Misha Lindes describes the band’s sound with a poetic sensibility:

If you want to learn about water, go to the desert… the record is a small portion of my experience growing up and living here. It’s basically about the fluidity of water and its power and importance
