Record Store Day is back for another year of exclusive releases on Saturday, April 13. It’s a day of celebration for independent record stores, their owners and employees to help spread the word about the unique culture surrounding their stores and communities.
Special vinyl and album releases are made exclusively for Record Store Day and can be purchased at various in-store events. Ernie Ball artists participating range from Courtney Barnett, to our beloved indie bands like Violent Femmes and Soccer Mommy. Below is a list of all the Ernie Ball family of artists participating in Record Store Day. Find your participating local record store venue here and be sure to support your favorite musicians and local stores this Saturday.
Courtney Barnett
Australian powerhouse Courtney Barnett will be releasing her brand new track “Everybody Here Hates You” in a 12″ vinyl exclusively for Record Store Day. Her 2018 single “Small Talk” will be featured as the B-Side, and the cover artwork was even hand illustrated by Courtney herself. After picking up a record, check out Courtney’s upcoming tour dates to find a show near you.
Courtney plays Ernie Ball Regular and Power Slinky guitar strings. When she strips down to acoustic, she relies on Earthwood 80/20 Medium strings.
Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones)
Perhaps the greatest rhythm guitarist in rock & roll, the legendary Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones will be releasing several of the bands popular Big Hit records, including Through the Past Darkly and High Tide and Green Grass, both available on LP format. A live performance of “She’s A Rainbow” from their 2017 show at the U Arena in Paris will be available on a 10″ vinyl. Thrice
Southern California natives Thrice formed in the late ’90s and have become one of the most influential acts in post-hardcore. The quartet will be releasing the Deeper Wells EP including four new unreleased tracks recorded during the sessions from their 2018 album, Palms. Thrice have sold over two million units in the US and will be bringing their unstoppable live shows to the masses on their upcoming world tour. The Record Store Day exclusive is pressed on white vinyl, with four songs on Side A and an etching on Side B.
Guitarist Dustin Kensrue relies on Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky Cobalt guitar strings and stay tuned for his exclusive Ernie Ball Music Man artist series guitar.
Green Day
Green Day‘s muddy set at Woodstock ’94 was a crucial moment in the group’s long history. Their major label debut Dookie had been on shelves for only five months, rappidly climbing the charts. The group saw Woodstock ’94 as an opportunity to reach a wider audience, and when fans began throwing mud they didn’t hesitate to throw back, culminating in a near-riot where a security guard mistook basset Mike Dirnt for a psychotic fan and smashed his front teeth out. Thanks to Record Store Day, the chaos can be relived over and over again on an exclusive LP of the live set.
Vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong plays Ernie Ball Regular Slinky guitar strings and bassist Mike Dirnt plays Hybrid Slinky Cobalt bass strings.
